Being Kevin Brooks 323 pages
I recently went to a conference in San Antonio and received numerous free “Advanced Copies” of books – a new, free book – there’s nothing better!! This book, Being, is one that I recommend. The author has written several other titles, which I immediately ordered for the library next year, after reading this one. Being is sent in Europe and starts out from chapter one with action you don’t want to put down. Robert Smith, the main character, has been having stomach problems and goes to the hospital for a routine check up – during the exam, things go awry and he finds himself under anesthesia and paralyzed, but is still aware of what is going on around him. He can hear the doctors making comments about what they are finding – the overall comment being, “What the heck is inside this boy?” Robert realizes he has to escape and finds superhuman strength to do so. The remainder of the book is his adventure trying to stay away from the people who are trying to frame him for murder and to find out exactly what he is. I definitely recommend this read – I couldn’t put it down all weekend!!
